Anna is 4th in the nation!

2007 JOAD National Championship
June 28-July 1, 2007

Chula Vista, CA
(JOAD - Junior Olympic Archery Development)

Anna shot in the JOAD National Outdoor Championship at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center, a four day tournament. It begins with a practice day, then a two day FITA Tournament and finishes with an Olympic Round on the fourth day. This is essentially the same format that is shot at the Olympics. We arrived on Thursday for the controlled open practice where archers can shoot at any of the four distances. On the second day, the official scored shooting begins with the two long distances. The Junior Women's division shoots 36 arrows at 70 meters and then 36 arrows at 60 meters. On the third day, the two short distances are shot, 36 arrows each at 50 meters and then 30 meters. A perfect score in the FITA is 1440. The final ranking determines the position in the Olympic Round (OR), a one on one single elimination shoot out. Each archer shoots 12 arrows at 70 meters, the winner moves on, the loser is out. Shooting all 10s, a perfect score is 120

In the two day FITA Tournament, Anna shot an 1156, which put her in fourth place. This also gave her a good position in the Olympic Round. She got a bye in the 1/16th Round and then beat her opponent 87 to 66 in the 1/8th Round. In the 1/4 Finals, she won 106 to 70. (Her score of 106 was the overall highest score in the Jr Women's OR.) In the Semi-Finals she lost to Annette Gorelik 97 to 88. This put Anna in the Bronze Medal Round. She shot against Barbie Cyin and lost 82 to 61. In the Gold Medal Round, Annette Gorelik beat Heather Koehl 101 to 90. Annette took the Gold and Heather took Silver.

Anna is fourth in the nation after shooting in only her second outdoor tournament. She shoots again at the 2007 National Target Championships August 6-11 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
